SVERI: A legacy of service and commitment in northwest Puerto Rico

The first responder industry is a world where your calling becomes a profession, and where the ability to do what others cannot becomes a duty. To belong to this workforce is to be a privileged witness of the courage and dedication required to save lives in the most challenging circumstances.

This is according to Hector Negrón, the founder of SVERI (Isabela Volunteer Emergency and Rescue Service), a non-profit organization established in the municipality of Isabela, which has become a beacon of hope in the face of unexpected emergency situations in the northwest region.

SVERI was born from the founder's concern about emergencies that arise in the communities in the North region of the Island. From a very early age, Negrón has worked as a first responder and his extensive career prompted him to form a volunteer support team.

After 23 years of service, the organization has saved hundreds of lives by voluntarily providing rescue, first aid, extraction services and more. Also, SVERI is dedicated to providing training courses to communities on first aid in situations where time is vital to save lives.

For Héctor, being a first responder is a profession that fulfills him: “...the ability to bring back life to a person in need within a dangerous situation, the possibility of providing dignified closure to families by recovering the body of their loved one after an unfortunate event – it fulfills me to make a positive impact through volunteering.”

At Paladius, the history of this organization inspires us to continue our mission of supplying every Puerto Rican first responder with the best tools and resources. We recognize that external support is invaluable to SVERI, so we invite our community to get to know them and share their story so they can continue to save lives.
